I use basic handouts and youtube videos for my classes. Most of the consumers that I teach at ARCIL have trouble with reading and writing. So, I will often ask a consumer if he/she knows what a word means and how the word is spelled. For example, when I teach a computer class, I have each consumer sound out a word when typing a website name, such as Facebook, into the search bar. My goal with each class is to get the consumers to participate as much as possible.
I have a B.A. degree in English. I am currently working at ARCIL (Austin Resource Center for Independent Living) as the Independent Living Services coordinator. Part of my job involves teaching classes. I have excellent written and verbal skills. And I know a little French.
