About Stella

I am a highly motivated graduate with a Master's in Natural Sciences at University College London, specialising in Physics and Physical Chemistry. I offer Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry tuition. I am an enthusiastic tutor eager to build confidence and skills in learners who wish to improve their understanding and academic performance. I have been conveying ideas and complex information clearly since I was a mathematics mentor in the sixth form. I have experience working as a teacher in a school - New River College Medical. Here I have taught GCSE Chemistry and Physics one-to-one for two years. Most recently, I taught a Year 11 student who had missed a whole year of teaching, and I was able to help them achieve an 8 in GCSE Chemistry. I also gained a wealth of experience while tutoring with The Access Project, an organisation offering free one-to-one tutoring to school students who would not normally be able to afford private tutoring. I recently supported GCSE Mathematics students to reach their curriculum goals, taking them from a grade 4/5 at the start of their journey to obtaining grades 7-9 by the end of one year. I am conscious of the impact of Covid-19 on school students and would like to play a small part in helping them to recover their confidence. In addition, I have taught coding workshops for primary school children as part of a volunteer programme at UCL and I was on a STEM Potential programme at Imperial College London for 4 years. I am DBS certified. I also offer tutoring in Music Theory. I was a music student at the Royal College of Music for 4 years studying voice, violin and piano, and I have taken ABRSM Music Theory grades 1-7. My teaching method prioritises the fundamental understanding of concepts over the rote learning of question solutions to foster a deeper understanding of the material. I aim to draw bridges between the sciences and maths so that learning of one subject can support the others. My experience as a teacher means that I am very familiar with the syllabuses taught in schools and I understand the importance of developing strong exam technique and problem-solving skills.
