  • 1. Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

Video editing is more than just cutting clips and adding transitions-it's storytelling at its core. My interest began in high school when I was asked to put together a short montage for a school project. I remember sitting in front of a basic editing program and suddenly losing track of time, completely absorbed. I realized that with the right edits, you could make people laugh, cry, or feel chills-just by rearranging images and sound. That moment sparked a lifelong fascination with post-production magic. Since then, I've edited everything from wedding reels to short films, music videos, and YouTube content, learning how pacing, color, sound, and emotion can turn raw footage into something powerful.
  • 2. What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

I chose to teach because I remember how overwhelming video editing felt at first. So many tools, so many buttons-and not knowing where to begin. I wanted to be the person I needed back then: someone who breaks things down simply, encourages creativity, and sparks confidence. There's nothing more fulfilling than watching a student go from "I don't know what I'm doing" to "Look what I made!" Also, I've had some amazing mentors in my own journey, and I believe in passing that torch forward.
  • 3. How does your work help society?

Video is everywhere-on our phones, on social media, in documentaries, in movements. Teaching video editing gives people the tools to express themselves visually, tell their stories, and have a voice. Whether it's a small business creating a promo video, a teenager vlogging their experiences, or an activist spreading awareness-a well-edited video can make a message go viral. By empowering people to create and communicate visually, I believe we're enriching the way we share knowledge, connect, and inspire change.
  • 4. If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

Casey Neistat comes to mind. He's not just a phenomenal editor, he's a storyteller who understands how to capture real emotion and energy. He's proof that you don't need the fanciest gear to make something impactful-you just need a vision and the storytelling chops to bring it to life. I admire his work ethic, his creativity, and how he made video editing feel cool and accessible to so many. He inspired a whole generation to pick up cameras-and for some, editing software too.
  • 5. Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching, I'm still very much in the creative space-I love photography, sound design, and even dabble in animation. But I also balance that with some analog joys: hiking, cooking (especially trying out weird food mashups), and playing the guitar-though I'm still very much a "campfire chords" kind of player. And I'm a huge film buff. I can lose an entire Sunday watching behind-the-scenes documentaries just to see how editors crafted scenes frame by frame.
  • 6. Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

Absolutely-there was one student, a shy high schooler who had never edited before. They joined one of my beginner classes almost by accident (it was a last-minute schedule change). At first, they barely spoke, but when we did a mini-challenge to make a 30-second "about me" video, they delivered something so poetic, it stunned the whole class. Fast forward a few months-they were editing videos for the school's social media and eventually got accepted into a university film program. That transformation reminded me why I teach: because sometimes, we're not just showing someone how to edit-we're helping them find their voice.
