About Silas
I am a passionate tutor with 7 years of experience in teaching and working with students from school to college levels. I specialize in teaching chess and love helping students grow both in skill and confidence. My journey began with a deep love for the game, which soon turned into a calling to teach and inspire others. Over the years, I’ve guided many students to win school tournaments and improve their strategic thinking. I believe learning chess builds focus, patience, and decision-making—skills that go beyond the board. Each lesson I teach is interactive, thoughtful, and tailored to the student’s level and goals. One of my proudest moments was coaching a beginner who later became a finalist in a state-level championship. Teaching is not just a job for me; it’s a way to make a difference. I’m here to support, motivate, and help students discover their true potential through chess.

My teaching methodology for chess is based on Accountability, Creativity, and Communication. I help students stay focused and motivated by setting clear goals and tracking progress over time. Each lesson is structured but flexible, allowing space for curiosity and learning at your own pace.
I believe creativity is key in chess, so I encourage students to think outside the box and explore different strategies. We study classic games, practice tactics, and play through real game situations to build decision-making skills. I also focus on effective communication—listening to students' needs and explaining concepts in a clear, simple way.
Besides chess, I also teach strategy games like Backgammon, Checkers, Risk, and Settlers of Catan. These games help students develop pattern recognition, planning, and critical thinking. Whether you are learning for fun, school competitions, or professional improvement, I guide you with patience, structure, and a passion for the game.
