About Maisy

My piano studio is a space where curiosity leads, and growth follows. I teach students of all ages and backgrounds with an approach that’s equal parts disciplined and joyful. Each lesson is a mix of technique, theory, creative play, and meaningful repertoire. I believe that strong musicianship is built on both structure and freedom, so I teach finger strength, articulation, rhythm, and sight-reading with care, while also making space for improvisation, songwriting, and expressive exploration. We might spend one week learning a classical piece and the next composing music to accompany a poem or visual art project. One of my favorite teaching moments came when a student brought in a watercolor painting and asked if we could “play the colors”—we used this as a prompt for improvisation and ended up creating a beautiful, collaborative piece together. I use audio recordings, visual tools, practice checklists, and creative writing exercises to deepen students' connection to their music. My goal is not just for students to play accurately but to feel emotionally engaged and empowered by what they’re doing. For more advanced students, I offer mentorship on interpretation, musical form, repertoire planning, and expressive nuance. For younger beginners, I provide movement-based rhythm training, story-based musical games, and lots of praise for effort and growth. I believe in creating a space where every student feels safe to try, to fail, to try again—and ultimately, to thrive. Piano is a journey that reflects our emotions, discipline, and imagination. I’m here to guide that journey with warmth, flexibility, and a deep love for the art of teaching.

About the lesson

With a passion for piano and teaching, I create lessons that are both structured and inspiring, designed to meet each student’s individual needs and aspirations. I start by helping students build a solid technical foundation through exercises that develop finger strength, coordination, and rhythmic precision.

I carefully tailor repertoire to reflect their musical preferences, whether that’s classical compositions, jazz standards, or popular songs, so learning is always meaningful and motivating. Theory, sight-reading, and ear training are integrated in practical ways that support performance and understanding. Creativity is encouraged via improvisation and composition, empowering students to express their unique musical ideas.

I emphasize the importance of consistent, focused practice, providing strategies to help students develop habits that foster progress without burnout. Technology plays a role through recording and playback, enabling detailed assessment and encouraging self-reflection. A particularly rewarding moment was seeing a student progress from struggling with timing to confidently performing a complex piece in recital. I strive to cultivate a welcoming, patient environment where students feel supported to explore, grow, and develop lifelong musical skills and passion.
