About Yami

As a highly motivated and dedicated educator, my journey as a dance enthusiast and instructor has been deeply enriching. I possess an extensive repertoire of dance styles, including Hip Hop, Afro dance, Latin social, Ballroom dancing, and Chinese traditional dance. Throughout my educational journey, I have been a leader in various dance teams during high school, college, and graduate school at Teachers College, Columbia University. These leadership roles have honed my ability to inspire and guide dancers of all ages and skill levels, fostering a sense of camaraderie and artistic expression.

At the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi, I had the privilege of teaching Chinese dance to students from diverse backgrounds. My experience in preparing and delivering engaging Chinese dance courses allowed me to nurture a love for the art form and instill a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture among my students. I found immense joy in witnessing my students’ growth and their ability to connect with Chinese traditions through dance.

Beyond formal teaching environments, I have also embarked on private dance tutoring, sharing my expertise in various dance styles (Hip Hop, Afro) with students on an individual basis. This personalized approach has enabled me to tailor instruction to the specific needs and interests of each student, fostering a deeper understanding and passion for dance.

Combining my passion for dance with my expertise in education, I founded the first student dance club at Teachers College, TC Hub of Dancers, which promoted cultural diversity and fostered inclusivity through various cultural dance events and workshops. These events, such as dance show lotteries, International Dance Day celebrations, "Fall for Dance" workshop series, and "50 Years of Hip Hop" celebrations, brought together students from diverse backgrounds to share their love for dance and art, creating an inclusive environment that celebrated diversity.

My profound background in dance, complemented by my extensive experience in education, curriculum development, and multicultural awareness, uniquely positions me to excel in the role of a Dance Tutor.
