I believe in personalized learning! Every student is just a little bit different. Everyone has their own way of learning, and as a teacher it is important to pinpoint exactly what my students' needs are. I have experience with many, many different different kinds of learners. There is no one single method of teaching that will work 100% effectively for everyone. Working with a student can be as much of a learning experience for me as it is for them! I strive to understand the needs of my students, and develop lessons which will help them to advance in the most efficient way.
I am an artist and musician specializing in multiple musical instruments. I have been playing the violin and the viola for 13 years, the cello and the double bass for 7 years, and piano/ keyboard and pipe organ for 9 years! I also have advanced Music Theory knowledge. I have been teaching private music lessons for 7 years with amazing success! I have experience teaching anyone from ages 8 to 50, with a wide range of skill levels from beginner to advanced. My students see only success, soaring in their classes and displaying excellent knowledge of their work and music theory topics.
In my own career, I practiced solo violin and performed many competitions and venues, but my primary focus was chamber music! I played the second violin part of my quartet, and we did many local performances, including several shows at the esteemed Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands! Currently, I focus primarily on teaching.
I asked Alex to work with my son beginning in early October because he was struggling with virtual instruction as a first-time cello player. They have been working together now for two months, and his growth as a musician has been amazing! She has helped him correct errors in his posture and hand positioning and also helped him work through a bout of perfectionism. Alex is patient, calm and very knowledgeable! She absolutely is a 'natural' teacher. In addition, she is punctual and consistently available. Between my two boys I've worked with several different music tutors and Alex is right up there with the best of them. I would recommend you seek out a music tutor for your child if they are learning a string instrument, and I can recommend Alex to you without any reservations whatsoever!
I believe it is important to have one on one teaching when beginning a new instrument. Alex is a fantastic teacher and is incredibly talented. She works well with kids and I recommend her to everyone I know who has kids in orchestra. She worked with my son when he started playing the bass. Having those one on one sessions in the beginning made a world of difference in his understanding and in his attitude towards being in orchestra.
