About Lauren

I am currently studying for my comptia A+ exam; I have been around computers for many years, and in the last few years I decided to make a jump into the world of computer science. Although my degree is in the social sciences, I continue to find myself glued to a PC any chance I get, and over the years I have developed a solid understanding in how they function and also ways to use computers to make my every day life more efficient and, well, connected. As I further my recent "formal" studies I am finding myself learning at a much faster rate, narrowing my focus, and I want to share that knowledge with people who are eager to learn the value of computing in today's world.

And know this...If you are one of those people who have a difficult time grasping the mountain of information that is out there you are not alone and trust me when I say I was you at one point. With a little persistence and the right guidance you can become just as efficient in computing, benefit just as much as the next person, and then take your knowledge as far as you want. There nothing wrong with asking for a little help boosting the learning process because with all the info that exists pertaining to computers no one can be expected to even know where to begin. I only wish I had someone to show me the ropes if you will.
My aim is to cut through all the irrelevant stuff and all the jargon and concepts that might otherwise get someone sidetracked and when learning about computers it is soooo easy to find yourself jumping from one subject to the next without even realizing it. What happens then is a person gets frusterated and believes that they are not learning the subject matter because computers are somehow more complex than particle physics and they are not "smart enough" or "literate enough" or whatever the case may be and that, I promise you, is not the case.
My teaching methodology, when it comes to basic computing, is:
1. Help my student formulate a road map through the basics and eliminate all the irrelevant material.
This helps to ease the confusion of the sheer density of the subject thus allowing the student to see the
subject as being within their reach.
2. Learn by doing. We all learn better and retain more information when we make connections between
the material and our own knowledge data base; when it comes to learning the basics in computers I
have found it to be very effective to take the concepts and configure as many solutions as possible to
the students daily life problems and/or interests using various programs, applications, networking
tools, digital gadgets, etc; in a sense I am injecting the subject matter directly into the students life as
much as possible and at the same time solving day to day problems or perhaps just improving in
certain areas which would be taking a practical approach to the learning process as well.
