About Phoebe
Many of my students are drawn to the flute because of its clear, airy voice and meditative quality—and that’s where we begin: with the breath. My lessons are ideal for adult learners who want to approach music in a calm, thoughtful, and personalized way. I often work with students in their 50s, 60s, and beyond who are seeking meaningful creative expression. Some have had past musical experiences; many have not. What they all share is a desire to learn at their own pace and in their own way. My teaching emphasizes simplicity, clarity, and kindness. We build from the breath up, learning how to shape sound with care and ease. We practice short phrases, explore rhythm gently, and work with music that feels personally relevant. Lessons are never rushed or stressful; they are grounding and filled with encouragement. I also introduce mindfulness tools like guided breathing and reflective listening, which many students find refreshing. Learning the flute can be a peaceful ritual—one that you look forward to each week.

My flute instruction is built around one essential idea music is personal, and the path to learning it should be, too. I specialize in teaching adults—particularly those 50 and older—who are ready to explore music as a creative outlet, a source of relaxation, or a way to reconnect with a lifelong dream. Many of my students are coming to the flute for the very first time, while others are picking it back up after many years away.
No matter your background, I take the time to understand your unique goals, learning style, and pace so that every lesson feels meaningful, encouraging, and doable. I draw from a foundation of classical training, but I modernize the experience through a variety of tools designed with adult learners in mind: breath-based tone development, personalized practice plans, audio playback so you can track your own progress, and slowed-down recordings that allow you to hear and internalize new concepts at your own speed.
Lessons are interactive and multi-sensory sometimes we clap rhythms, sometimes we move, and sometimes we even write about the music to connect more deeply. I use call-and-response playing to help you develop your ear and improvisation techniques to spark creativity and build confidence. Most importantly, my studio is a judgment-free zone. If you've ever had a discouraging musical experience in the past, we leave that behind and focus instead on growth, joy, and exploration. You won't be rushed, compared, or pressured—just supported and celebrated at each step of your journey. Whether you want to play in a group, share music with your family, or simply enjoy time with yourself and your instrument, I’ll help you build a solid foundation and a lifelong connection to music that brings you joy every time you play.
