About Gloria
Teaching flute to adult students is incredibly fulfilling because every learner brings a unique story, a distinct set of goals, and a genuine desire to grow. My lessons are crafted to meet you exactly where you are—no previous experience required. I specialize in working with adults 50+ who are often rediscovering music after many years or starting fresh for the first time. The process begins with sound: learning how to breathe calmly and consistently to create a rich, resonant tone. Then we move gradually into note reading, finger technique, rhythm practice, and eventually playing full pieces that you connect with emotionally. I keep materials accessible and adult-friendly—offering printouts with large notation, listening tracks, and gentle reminders to celebrate every step forward. I also focus heavily on building confidence. Many of my students come in thinking they’ll “never get it,” and within weeks, they’re surprising themselves with how far they’ve come. The lessons are informal, engaging, and always encouraging. You don’t need to be perfect—you just need to show up and explore. My job is to help you discover how deeply satisfying and joyful it can be to make music at this stage in your life.

Flute instruction, especially for adults, should be an act of empowerment. I teach with the philosophy that everyone can learn music if given the right tools, pacing, and encouragement. I work almost exclusively with adults over 50 who want to explore their musical side in a low-pressure, inspiring setting.
My lessons blend the essentials of flute technique with personalized exercises in listening, creative writing, and rhythmic movement. I use a variety of tools—recordings, visual feedback, tempo guides, and journaling—to help you understand how you’re improving, not just what to fix. You’ll learn how to read music, develop tone, keep rhythm, and phrase expressively, all at a pace that suits you. The journey is just as important as the result, and I’m here to make sure you enjoy every note of it.
