About Soren
With 8 years of experience teaching chess to high school and college students, I focus on building strong, adaptable players through personalized learning. Every student brings a unique set of strengths, and I design lessons that match their style, goals, and pace. Whether you're preparing for a school tournament or just want to improve your strategic thinking, I’m here to guide you step by step. My sessions emphasize deep understanding over memorization. We cover core areas like openings, middlegame planning, endgame technique, and time management. I also help students develop critical thinking, pattern recognition, and calm decision-making under pressure. One of my strengths is identifying the specific gaps in a student’s play and addressing them with targeted exercises and real-game analysis. I use interactive tools and annotated games to make learning engaging and effective. My goal is not just to teach chess, but to nurture confident thinkers who can analyze and adapt both on and off the board. I believe chess should be both challenging and enjoyable. With structure, support, and steady feedback, I help students unlock their full potential.

My teaching style blends strategy with real-life thinking. In chess, I use real-world case studies—classic matches, grandmaster decisions, and historic turning points—to help students understand deeper patterns and ideas. Each move becomes part of a larger story, not just a calculation.
I believe learning is best when it’s collaborative. In my sessions, we discuss options, think aloud, and work through positions together. Whether you’re a beginner or a tournament-level player, I tailor each lesson to your goals and style.
Empathy is at the heart of my teaching. I adapt to how you learn best and ensure the pace feels right. Mistakes are treated as stepping stones, not setbacks.
Besides chess, I also teach logical reasoning, basic probability, and game-based strategic thinking. These skills connect naturally with chess and support overall critical thinking. My goal is to help you grow as a thoughtful, resilient, and confident player—on and off the board.
