About Ella
I am a seasoned Chess Grandmaster with over three years of experience in mentoring and coaching students of all ages. My journey in chess began at a young age, and through dedication and rigorous practice, I have achieved the prestigious title of Grandmaster. This accomplishment reflects not only my skill in the game but also my deep understanding of strategic thinking and problem-solving, which I am passionate about imparting to my students.
My teaching philosophy revolves around fostering a love for the game while developing critical thinking and analytical skills. I believe that chess is not just a game but a powerful tool for enhancing cognitive abilities that are applicable in many aspects of life. My lessons are designed to be engaging and interactive, ensuring that students remain motivated and enthusiastic. Whether I am working with beginners or advanced players, I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs and learning styles, making the learning experience both enjoyable and effective.
Throughout my coaching career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse group of learners, from young children just starting their chess journey to adults aiming to refine their competitive skills. This diversity has enriched my teaching experience, allowing me to develop a versatile coaching style that can adapt to different levels of understanding and experience. I take pride in seeing my students grow, not just as chess players, but as confident and strategic thinkers.
Beyond chess, I am deeply interested in educational psychology and the ways in which strategic games can influence cognitive development. I regularly participate in seminars and workshops to stay updated with the latest educational techniques and tools. This continuous learning ensures that I bring fresh perspectives and innovative methods to my teaching. My ultimate goal is to inspire a lifelong passion for chess in my students, equipping them with the skills and mindset to excel both in the game and in their broader academic and personal pursuits.

In today's chess lesson, we aimed to enhance strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, crucial for both chess and broader intellectual development. We began with a brief review of the previous lesson, revisiting key concepts and strategies. This helped to reinforce foundational knowledge and ensured that all students were on the same page before introducing new material.
Next, we delved into advanced opening strategies, focusing on the principles of control, development, and safety. Through interactive demonstrations on the chessboard, students were able to see these principles in action. I encouraged them to ask questions and propose alternative moves, fostering a collaborative learning environment. This interactive approach not only deepened their understanding but also engaged them actively in the learning process.
We then moved to practical application through a series of timed practice games. Students played against each other, applying the strategies discussed earlier. During these games, I observed their moves and provided real-time feedback, highlighting both strong decisions and areas for improvement. This hands-on practice was invaluable, as it allowed students to experience the dynamics of a real game while receiving immediate guidance.
The lesson concluded with a reflective discussion, where students shared their experiences and insights from the practice games. We discussed common challenges and effective strategies to overcome them, reinforcing the day’s learning objectives. By the end of the session, students had not only gained a deeper understanding of advanced opening strategies but also improved their critical thinking and decision-making skills, essential both on and off the chessboard.
