About Remy
I’ve been immersed in chess instruction for over 6 years, teaching students of all ages in private and group formats. I bring a structured but encouraging approach, helping each learner understand the “why” behind every move. My goal is to nurture critical thinking and strategic depth, no matter your level of play. Beyond tutoring, I have competed in local tournaments and regularly analyse high-level games to stay sharp and bring fresh insights into each session. This keeps my teaching both current and connected to real-world play. I emphasise practical knowledge—how to play well, not just memorise lines. My belief is that chess is more than just a game; it’s a lifelong tool for focus, resilience, and intellectual growth. I teach with patience and adaptability, using student-friendly explanations while gently challenging students to push their boundaries. Every learner deserves a tutor who meets them where they are and builds from there.

Chess lessons start with helping students understand the core structure of the game—how each piece moves, basic board vision, and the value of position. For beginners, we cover key concepts like development, controlling the centre, and avoiding early blunders. Lessons focus on reinforcing confidence, cultivating patience, and identifying patterns through guided play and interactive exercises. As players improve, we shift into intermediate strategies involving pawn structures, tactical motifs such as forks and pins, and analysing famous games. I teach students to calculate multiple lines ahead and recognise traps both offensively and defensively. Puzzles and time-limited practice games are introduced to improve critical thinking under pressure. Advanced students receive tailored coaching based on their strengths and weaknesses. We work on opening repertoires, advanced endgame theory (king and pawn endings, minor piece coordination), and tournament preparation. I emphasise decision-making, adapting to unfamiliar positions, and learning from each game through thoughtful review and self-reflection.
