About Fiona
I am a Physics tutor with over 7 years of experience and an MSc in Applied Physics. My lessons focus on the fascinating study of optics and wave phenomena, including light, sound, and electromagnetic waves. I guide students through ray tracing, interference, diffraction, and their applications in technology. Many of my learners study photonics, telecommunications, or imaging sciences. My teaching emphasizes clarity, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving. I use diagrams, simulations, and interactive exercises to make abstract topics tangible. I support Architect learners in organizing their reasoning and Proof Seekers in exploring rigorous explanations. Lessons are structured, step by step, to ensure confidence and understanding. I also highlight real-world applications of waves in devices and technology. Communication is key—I encourage students to explain ideas naturally and clearly. Over the years, I’ve helped learners succeed in exams and prepare for advanced studies. My aim is to make physics both enjoyable and meaningful. Together, we explore how waves shape our perception of light and sound.

My teaching approach is reflective, supportive, and practical, designed to build confidence in scientific inquiry. I guide students in designing experiments, collecting data, and analyzing results carefully. Lessons cover error propagation, interpretation, and structured scientific reporting. DIY Scientists are encouraged to explore ideas independently and test their creativity. Curiosity-Driven Learners are supported in finding their own investigative style. Hands-on activities connect abstract physics principles to real-world phenomena. Complex procedures are broken into manageable steps to build clarity and skill. Mistakes are embraced as learning opportunities, not setbacks. Students gradually gain independence, analytical thinking, and confidence. I emphasize reflection and discussion to deepen understanding. Lessons also highlight the relevance of physics to technology and daily life. Together, we discover new ways to conduct experiments confidently. Science becomes an enjoyable path of discovery and practical skill.
