About Melanie
As a passionate chess tutor, I help students develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. With 7 years of experience, I've honed my teaching methods to make learning fun and engaging. When I'm not tutoring, you can find me reading about history, philosophy, or science - I'm a curious person who loves learning new things!
In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar and writing music. I find that music and chess have a lot in common - both require creativity, strategy, and attention to detail. I also enjoy hiking and exploring new outdoor spaces, which helps me clear my mind and stay focused.
I'm a bit of a language enthusiast, and I enjoy learning new languages in my spare time. I'm currently studying Spanish and French, and I appreciate the challenge of learning new grammar and vocabulary. Overall, I believe that having diverse hobbies and interests helps me become a more well-rounded and effective tutor, and I'm always looking for new ways to grow and learn!

My chess lessons are designed to be engaging and challenging for students of all skill levels. I start by assessing their current understanding of the game and identifying areas where they need improvement. From there, I create a personalized learning plan that focuses on specific strategies and techniques, such as opening moves, pawn structure, and endgame tactics.
During our sessions, I use a combination of instruction, demonstration, and practice to help students learn and retain new skills. We work through puzzles and exercises together, and I provide feedback and guidance to help them improve. I also encourage students to ask questions and think critically about their moves, so they can develop their own problem-solving skills.
My goal as a tutor is to help students become confident and independent chess players. I strive to create a supportive and motivating learning environment, where students feel encouraged to take risks and try new things. By the end of our lessons, I want students to have a deeper understanding of the game and the skills they need to succeed in competitions and casual play alike.
