About Charmaine
I am currently an independent piano performance student who is studying in one of the most renowned music conservatories in the world— the Mozarteum University, in the city where Mozart was born and lived — Salzburg, Austria. I have received numerous scholarships to study here and I am eternally grateful for this opportunity. Below is my biography:
20-year-old Canadian pianist, Charmaine Yang, has been playing the piano for 15 years. She currently studies with Professor Andreas Groethuysen at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. At the age of 13 she performed the second movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 with an orchestra. In 2019, she won the first place in her category at CMC Concours de musique du Canada. Trio Liscio, a trio that she was part of, was delegated to represent the BC province in 2018 at the FCMF National Music Festival where they won second place at the national competition despite being the youngest competitors. Charmaine has received amazing opportunities to take part in masterclasses, including a summer at Goslar with Arie Vardi in 2019; a summer at the Curtis Institute of Music with Yoheved Kaplinsky, Toby Appel, Amy Yang, and others in 2018; and other mentors include Mischa Maisky, André Laplante, Jon Kimura Parker, John O'Conor and the Gryphon Trio.

I am a concert pianist who teaches students of all ages and levels from Europe through zoom. I am very open with what you would like to learn, whether it be reading notes, music theory, or advanced level of interpretation. I instruct in English, but I have also taught in Mandarin and German.
