About Lyla
I’m a dedicated piano tutor with 14 years of teaching experience, and I love helping students discover their own musical voice. I hold a Licentiate of Music in Piano (LMusA), which reflects my deep training and commitment to my craft. My lessons are designed to guide students through every stage of their journey, whether they’re preparing for ABRSM exams, Rockschool certifications, or tackling demanding university-level piano work. I believe every student has untapped creative and technical potential, and my goal is to unlock it step by step. Some days we focus on strengthening foundations through technique drills, while other days are about exploring expressive interpretation and musical storytelling. I make sure lessons are never one-size-fits-all—I adapt to each student’s goals, strengths, and pace. Over the years, I’ve seen shy beginners gain confidence and advanced players refine their artistry. Nothing excites me more than watching a student finally master a piece they thought was impossible. I also encourage them to connect with music beyond the notes, learning how to bring their personality into every performance. Whether you dream of performing on stage, acing your exams, or simply playing for the joy of it, I’ll support you every step of the way. My piano teaching approach is built on helping students grow musical fluency step by step. I start by guiding them through reading music, understanding notes, and feeling confident with sheet music early on. Rhythm drills and finger exercises form the core of every lesson, building strength, control, and flow at the keys. I believe music isn’t just about playing the right notes—it’s about expressing feeling, so I teach students how to bring life into every piece they perform.
Each lesson is carefully adapted to the student’s pace and personal goals. Some learners thrive on technical precision, while others shine when interpreting songs with emotion, and I support both fully. I focus on helping talented students reach their next level, whether it’s mastering a challenging classical piece or polishing their stage presence. At the same time, I create a patient space for slower learners to gain confidence and enjoy steady progress.
Song interpretation is a key part of my teaching, showing students how to hear the story behind every melody. Together, we break down structure, phrasing, and dynamics so they don’t just play the music—they understand it. I encourage practice that feels meaningful, not mechanical, so motivation stays high. By the end, students not only play piano—they think, feel, and perform like true musicians.
