About Ryan

Merhaba dostum, Türkçe öğrenelim! Hello, I’m Ryan! I’m a 23 year old student Liberty University studying Global Cultural Engagment. However, during the pandemic some friends and I decided to just take a gap year, go to some country, and assimilate into the local culture. For me, that was Türkiye. Informally, I learned Turkish from the friends I lived with, everyday interactions, music, movies, and meeting people each and every day. At the same time, I enrolled in Ankara University’s Turkish Learning Center for foreigners (Ankara Üniversitesi, TÖMER) where I received a certificate certifying B2 proficiency and continued to complete C1 and a portion of the C2 course before returning to America. Since returning, I’ve gone back to studying online at Liberty, but also spend much of my time in the Turkish community where I live, enjoying Turkish media (and food!), and studying the language each day.

About the lesson

During my time in Turkey, I’ve taught both English-speaking and non-English speaking foreigners Turkish. Lessons ranged from 1 week to 2 months, and were taught either in only English, only Turkish, or a hybrid blend. Depending on their goals, each session was catered to their needs.
