About Layla
I am a violin tutor with over 8 years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Violin. My background includes extensive solo, chamber, and orchestral performance, which has shaped both my artistry and my teaching. I bring this experience into my lessons to help students connect performance with technique and interpretation. My teaching focuses on developing stage presence, preparing for auditions, and mastering advanced repertoire. I work closely with students to refine tone, phrasing, and musical storytelling so that their playing goes beyond accuracy and becomes expressive. Audition strategies, practice techniques, and confidence-building are also at the core of my instruction. I have worked with dedicated high school performers, conservatory students, and competition entrants. Each group brings its own challenges and goals, and I adapt my methods to meet their needs. Some students are preparing for conservatory auditions, while others are polishing works for competition. I provide the structure and detailed feedback needed to help them succeed. At the same time, I strive to keep lessons inspiring and motivating. Violin is both demanding and rewarding, and I want my students to feel that balance in every session. Together, we work step by step to strengthen technique while cultivating artistry. My ultimate goal is to guide students towards reaching their highest musical potential. Whether it’s a big performance, an audition, or personal growth as a musician, I am committed to helping each learner shine. Let’s take your violin playing to the next level of musical excellence.

My violin teaching approach is centred on curiosity, experimentation, and self-guided discovery. I believe that every student learns best when they feel free to explore and connect with sound in their own way. To encourage this, I use creative methods such as sound exploration, musical games, and improvisation exercises. These activities help students discover the joy of music while building essential skills. A key part of my lessons is developing ear–eye coordination, which makes reading and playing music feel natural. We also explore open string resonance, fingerboard mapping, and careful listening skills, so students can understand both the physical and expressive sides of the instrument. I want learners to hear, feel, and recognise how their violin responds, which deepens both technique and artistry. Some students thrive on independent discovery, and I fully support their curiosity by guiding them towards resources and exercises that let them take the lead. Others connect more through emotion or creative expression, and I design lessons that let them pour feeling into their playing. At the same time, I place value on building strong technical foundations, because solid technique opens the door to greater freedom. I adapt to different learning styles, ensuring each student finds a path that inspires them. For some, this might mean experimenting with improvisation. For others, it may be the joy of playing familiar tunes in new ways. No matter the approach, I aim to nurture musicians who feel both confident and creative. In every lesson, my goal is to balance discipline with discovery, structure with imagination. This way, students not only learn to play violin but also develop a personal relationship with music that lasts a lifetime.
