About Layla

With a DMA in Violin Performance and 7 years of teaching, I offer violin lessons that emphasize healing and self-expression. My approach is holistic, blending technical study with emotional release and mindfulness practices. I encourage students to use music as a safe outlet for stress and reflection. Improvisation is central to my teaching, as it invites freedom of voice and creativity. Journaling and soundscape creation are included to strengthen the connection between music and emotions. I have worked with a wide range of learners, including neurodiverse students, trauma survivors, and adults exploring personal growth. Each lesson is shaped by the student’s emotional and musical needs. I provide a calm and supportive learning space where vulnerability is respected. Music becomes a way to process, reflect, and heal. I believe every person has a story to tell through sound. The violin is our partner in that journey. Together, we use it as a tool for connection and inner peace.

About the lesson

I teach violin with an emphasis on bowing as the key to expressive playing. My lessons start with the basics: proper bow hold, relaxed shoulders, and fluid arm movement. From there, we practice building tone that is warm, even, and resonant. Dynamics are developed carefully, from soft pianissimo to powerful forte. We study bow strokes such as detaché, spiccato, and legato, always linking them to musical context. Exercises are designed to strengthen the bow arm without tension. I make special use of vocal backgrounds, helping Shower Singers and Choir Members channel their natural musicality into the violin. They often excel at phrasing, and I guide them to express it through the bow. Lessons are personalized and interactive, designed to meet each student’s needs. I encourage both focus and creativity in every session. My approach is step-by-step but always artistic. Over time, students build a strong foundation that allows them to play with freedom. The result is a confident player capable of producing beautiful sounds.
