About Mary
I am a retired Regional Supervisor of Home Economics Education with the California State Department of Education. My BS degree was in Home Economics Education, and the curriculum included basic cooking, nutrition, and how to teach classes in foods and nutrition. I grew up in a large family and helped my mother with a lot of the cooking. During college I did institutional cooking for (4) years. After graduating I worked for a year as a dietary technician in a local hospital. I assisted the dietitians in helping patients learn about various restricted diets, for example, low salt, low sugar, and low fat. I taught high school foods and nutrition classes at a large high school in St. Paul before moving to California. I obtained my MA degree in Education Administration and then worked as noted above for the California State Department of Education for 14 years. I ended my career directing an internship program for college students at NASA/Ames Research Center. I moved back to St. Paul a few years ago and Just recently found this site and thought it would be fun to teach again. BYW: I also signed up to teach golf. So, what more could you hope for; a golfer who won her club championship, who loves to cook and loves to teach

Making meals together. The sessions would include demonstration, practice and review. Although each lesson might include preparing a meal; each session would focus on different food categories and how to prepare (bake, fry, broil, etc) serve and present the food. For example, salads, meats and vegetables. The lessons would always include, nutrition information, safe storage, and time management. If requested, the lessons could also include equipping a kitchen, table manners and etiquette and how to correctly set a table.
