About Jax Hamilton
I have experience as a debate coach for high school students, a writing tutor at my university's student learning center, and have reviewed hundreds of successful college admission essays. I was admitted into various T20 universities (despite having nothing near a perfect GPA). I have scored in the 99th+ percentile on both the SAT & ACT, including a perfect score on the ACT writing section.

If I, a philosophy major considering a double-major in gender studies who originally applied to pursue physics, have learned anything in my four semesters at UC Berkeley, it is that there is a certain structural unpredictability in learning trajectories. After repeated failures, rejections, and missed opportunities, I have learned --perhaps the hard way-- that education and knowledge acquisition do not progress linearly toward predetermined outcomes. One minute you are in your freshman year, preparing for a robotics exam and your R1A teacher assigns a reading from Judith Butler’s Gender Trouble then boom, the next minute you are entering your 3rd year of university and coping with the anxiety of having an unemployable degree.
My point is that learning is a continuous journey of self-realization with no logical endpoint; it’s the perpetual navigation through a matrix of differing perspectives and ideas where meanings and interpretations are always in flux. I believe we must embrace the indeterminacy of meaning by deconstructing the notion of a fixed “endpoint” to learning (the correct answer, the A on the essay, the new job) and liberate ourselves from the rigid confines/expectations of the academy by opening ourselves to the endless possibilities of intellectual exploration.
