About Marianne

My name is Marianne and I have been tutoring for 2 years now. I'm in high school and I've noticed that passing tests and getting high grades isn't so much about how long you're on schoolwork, but how efficiently. I'm here to help you with that! I have an NT and NG profile with Latin, French and history, so I really like science subjects and languages. The techniques I'll be teaching you are used daily by Ivy League students! Contact us for a tutorial that will not only increase your grade for your upcoming test, but will also teach you how to learn the fastest and best in the future.
Regards, Marianne

In alpha subjects it is very important to first know the theory well, and then to apply it in the right way, with a reflection at the end.

Learning theory:
Learning theory can be done in many different ways, for example by making summaries, or by using flash cards. Every student can best reach their full potential in certain ways. That's why I use a lot of different resources during my lessons while explaining the theory in depth. Examples are using many visual aspects or explaining the material succinctly, and having the student make a schematic and concise summary that we then check together. As homework for the theory, I often give to repeat the material again using the learning strategy chosen during the lesson. Once the theory is fully in place, we move on to applying it.

To apply:
After learning the theory and discussing examples, we move on to applying it. During the lesson itself, I will start with a somewhat more difficult assignment and explain it thoroughly step by step. If necessary, I will provide a step-by-step plan. If the student understands the assignment and understands the principle, I give it as homework to work from simpler assignments to the level of the assignment that has been made together, for extra practice. This reduces the chance that the student will get stuck on more difficult assignments. This homework can be done with the step-by-step plan in the beginning, but at some point it must become automatic. As soon as this is the case, I will give difficult and more complex assignments as a diagnostic test (self-made or exam questions).

For the test:
For each test, the student will repeat everything and ask all the final questions. The penultimate lesson before the test, I answer it and I give a step-by-step plan (per subject) about how questions on the test should be answered for a total number of points. The very last lesson I give a practice test with points and we dot the i's.

Reflection:
As I mentioned before, every student has different teaching and learning preferences. It is therefore important to listen carefully to the student. After each lesson, the student reflects on himself, the tutoring and the way it was delivered, the learning strategies and the homework done.

The tutorials:
I give 60-minute tutoring in Dutch, Latin, English and mathematics to students of primary school, VMBO, HAVO (up to teacher 4) and VWO (up to grade 4).

Experience:
I have been tutoring for 2 years, after my very first tutoring, the student went from a 2.1 to a 7.9. I also followed a long-term course on performance anxiety. I can now give the most effective tips about this and because I often practice the principle of 'taking tests' with students, it automatically becomes easier for them.
