About KT-SINGS

I'm a singer with a love for teaching. I finally realised that in order to truly share my gifts, I had to bet on myself. In order to do that, I knew I needed to figure out a way to combine all my passions into one. Being a singing Tutor and using the ancient tradition of meditation in my lessons is the best way to put 22 years to perfect use.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I first developed a passion for music when I was about 4. I remember dancing with my mum to songs and my ability to memorise the words immediately. I was soon singing on camera every Christmas (have the embarrassing footage to prove it). But most importantly it was the first time I knew I could sing, I mean truly sing and I loved being in the spotlight; which was rate for introverted me. Courage came naturally as long as it involved singing and dancing. My favourite instrument is actually the saxophone, it s the incredible way the sultry tones hit your soul. I connect saxophone paying to singing, it's an amazing skill to use both instruments vocals and sax and make it look as if it's easy to any onlooker.
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I've always been an eclectic music listener, not many songs drive me crazy but Ive always held a soft spot for neo-soul and Soul/rnb songs. The soothing tones of Anthony Hamilton, Angie Stone, and Jill Scott mixed in with the message-worthy innovative styles of both India Arie and Erykah Badu.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I would say the most difficult and riveting course I could personally give is pushed rhythmic phrasing. Which is used mainly to stretch the range with challenging riffs. Fun to do and achieve but not easy at all.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I would probably say the saxophone, which is probably why I love it, love to be productively challenged. I remember once years ago, I tried making a sound with one under some brief guidance from a professional saxophone playing band member, it wasn't successful Lol.
  • What are your keys to success?

I would say vulnerability, because it takes courage to be truly vulnerable. I would also say tenacity, as standing firm in your goal no matter the obstacles is definitive way to move forward and up the ladder. From a musical perspective, the key to success is compounding; putting in a little everyday no matter what the weather is, even if you're on holiday, unwell, tired or its 4am - just do it no matter what.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would've loved to meet, Luther Vandross, Beyonce, and James Brown. Luther for his vocals and ability to make every song sound like he was in love with the lyrics. Beyonce to pick her brain on her business acumen and her ability to sing and perform and stay on pitch every time. James Brown for his vocals and ability to innovatively entertain.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I remember gearing up to do a live performance in music college. Rehearsals went on for weeks and everything was going smoothly up until the day of the performance. We were meant to perform LLcoolJ Doin It, not one of my favourites but the guy I rehearsed with was the spitting image of LLcoolJ, so we decided to have some fun with it.
Well there I was, standing on stage, the music was supposed to start and then LLcooj junior was supposed to make his entrance. Well, he did and then he stopped halfway to the stage turned around, and ran off refusing to come on stage, I was left standing there confused not knowing what to do next. I know now if you're ever left alone on stage by a runner don't chase after them. Grab the spotlight, take charge and save the day....it was probably my chance to shine. Although I did but for all the wrong reasons.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

For me it's my ability to make teaching fun. To turn the most doubtful student into a believer of their own ability by using techniques that push and excite them. To be a superprof in music you have to be courageous and to do that you have trust that you can be yourself in any situation, especially something as intimate as singing. I will always put a student at ease and encourage You to believe in yourself at each and every session until you no longer require my encouragement because you're doing it yourself with ease.
