Taking Spanish classes in High School

There are many things you can do to prepare yourself for your college and taking a major in Spanish. Apart from researching the different programs in colleges, you should make sure you build up your high school resume as much as you can. If you're wondering how you can prepare your high school resume to be good enough to be accepted at a college that has a top Spanish language program, don't worry we'll tell you.

The first tip we can give you is to let you know that the best thing you can do if you're still in high school is to take as many high school Spanish classes as possible. This will make sure that your high school resume looks impressive and complete, and you also need to practice, practice, and practice some more. The thing about foreign languages is if you don't use them you lose them.

While in high school you can take basic high school classes all the way up to more advanced classes. Taking advanced classes may be hard in the beginning but will help you in the long run, for your college life and beyond.

Studying abroad

Speaking of practice, another great thing you can do to prepare yourself is to find a program that allows you to study abroad during the summer or even during a semester or year during high school. There are many programs that take high school or college students to Spanish-speaking countries like Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, and more.

Studying abroad can be a fantastic opportunity for you to practice the Spanish you've learned and to add to your Spanish skills as well. Normally in these types of programs, you will be immersed in the language and culture as you will be living with a family and studying with Spanish-speaking students.

Practicing Your Spanish in an Institute

There are different language academies and institutes you can practice in when you have a vacation or between semesters. Wherever you live in the United States you probably shouldn't have much trouble finding a learning center to study in and improve on any subject you take in high school (or college) for that matter. There probably will be Spanish-speaking and foreign language institutes available around where you live, especially if there are a lot of native Spanish speakers that live in your neighborhood or town.

One of the most well-known institutes in the Cervantes Institute or Instituto de Cervantes is in Spanish. This institute comes from Spain and it is the best known Spanish language institute in the world. If you want to improve your Spanish you can definitely attend a course or even an intensive course there and you will surely get better. However, it must be pointed out that there are only several Cervantes Institutes in the United States.
