How Superprof Works for Students
With the advent of the internet and increasingly higher speeds, better webcams, and clearer audio, online video chats have become a way for tutors to teach students from all over the world.
Now, you can learn Japanese from somebody actually in Japan or master haute cuisine from a bona fide French chef without even leaving your home!
With Superprof, you have the choice of learning in person with local tutors or taking online classes with tutors from all over the world!
There are millions of private tutors on Superprof for all budgets. All the tutors on the platform are verified before their profile is published, so you can rest assured that when you reach out to a tutor, they are who and what they say they are.
Once you've found some tutors that you think are right for you and have paid for your monthly Student Pass, you can get in touch with them and start discussing and organizing your lessons.

Superprof Student Fees
Simply put: Superprof is a platform that connects students and tutors.
Once you find a tutor you want to work with, you are free to take your communication off of the platform and continue your lessons without using Superprof at all. Your relationship with your tutor is separate from your relationship with Superprof.
What Is the Student Pass?
Our monthly subscription for students is called the Student Pass. While you can browse all the tutors in the Superprof directory for free, you must purchase the pass in order to contact tutors. You can contact an unlimited number of tutors on Superprof with your Student Pass.

The Student Pass only covers the cost of accessing contact information for tutors. It does not cover the cost of any tutoring.
Scheduling lessons and paying for them is conducted directly between you and your tutor. Many tutors on Superprof offer their first lesson for free so you can find out if you’re a good match.

Once you've found the right tutor(s) for what you want to learn, contacted them, and arranged to conduct your lessons outside of the Superprof platform, you can end your Student Pass subscription.
You’ll still be able to make arrangements, take classes, and make payments with your tutor since the Student Pass only gives you access to tutors’ contact information, and you’ll already have everything you need to contact your favorite tutor!
If you want to find a new tutor in the future, simply re-subscribe to the Student Pass.

Superprof's Subscription Model
The rapid growth of Superprof is a testament to how well our business model works. When you sign up and reach out to a tutor, you will need to enter your payment information for a recurring subscription. The subscription activates when the tutor replies to your message, and you will be billed monthly for the Student Pass.
Remember, you can cancel your Student Pass at any time and still remain connected to the tutor(s) you’ve established a relationship with.
Real tutors and students can leave reviews for each other, so students can see other students’ experiences with tutors and tutors can let us know if a student is behaving well or not. This allows both types of users to build trust with each other and with the Superprof team. Together, we can ensure that Superprof is a safe, efficient place for everyone to exchange knowledge!
How Superprof Works for Tutors
Here's a quick introduction to how Superprof works for tutors.
The tutors on our platform are completely freelance, meaning they aren't employed by Superprof and are free to run their tutoring business as they see fit. We offer tutors a free way to advertise and promote their tutoring service while allowing them as much flexibility as they need: they can set their rates and choose their hours and Superprof won't meddle or interfere in any way.
Creating Tutoring Listings
Superprof tutors can create listings for each service they want to provide. So, if someone is knowledgeable in both cooking and dance, they can teach both on Superprof if they want to!
They can also rest easy in the knowledge that they won't be contacted by time-wasters or students who are just trying to take advantage of free taster sessions, since every student is dedicating resources and paying to be able to contact potential tutors.

Fees for Tutors
On Superprof, tutors decide how much to charge for tutoring and have the option to keep every cent earned through tutoring (at least until you pay your taxes). We pride ourselves on offering a platform and service that's different from the typical offerings for tutors out there.
The only time Superprof charges tutors is if they conduct lessons and payments through the Superprof platform. The benefits of using this service are:
- Safe and secure video chat for both students and tutors
- Safe and secure payment system for both students and tutors
- Direct help from the Superprof team if something goes wrong for both students and tutors
Tutors who do choose to charge their lessons through Superprof are charged a 10% processing fee. However, tutors have the option of accepting payments through third-party services like Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal, avoiding the processing fee.
Tutors can also set up their own online lessons through third-party video meeting sites like Zoom, Skype, and Google Meet.
Anyone with experience in a subject can become a Superprof tutor! Prospective tutors share their qualification details with Superprof to prove their knowledge, so students can be sure they are learning from experienced tutors.
And, if you’re a student on Superprof, you can also sign up to be a tutor! Likewise, tutors can also sign up to be students!
Benefits for Tutors on Superprof
Some other tutoring jobs take away a lot of tutors’ agency by matching them with students automatically, dictating what to charge for classes, and even creating a schedule for them.
At Superprof, tutors can message prospective students and decide if they want to work together or not; tutors are under no obligation to accept lesson requests from students. This way, both the student and the tutor can decide if they’re a good match in teaching/learning styles and personality before committing to further lessons.
Tutors also set their own rates, depending on whatever factors are important and applicable to them like qualifications, years of experience, and location.
In addition to setting rates, tutors also set their own schedules. Students and tutors decide on dates and times together, without any pressure from Superprof. Tutors are encouraged (but not required) to offer a free discovery video call with new students to determine if they are a good fit for one another.
Tutors also get advice and assistance from our Superprof customer service. They can help tutors with setting up their profiles and offer advice.

Is Superprof Only for Academic Subjects?
Not at all!
The kind of classroom education that we know today has only really been common for a few hundred years and has shockingly changed very little during that time. Superprof's Business Model
Superprof is built on the idea that tutoring is about dreaming, caring, and being involved in learning. We want to be altruistic, but at the end of the day, we have to generate income to keep providing a safe and functioning platform for students and tutors.
In the beginning, we needed a way to achieve our goals while also generating revenue and we considered a few different ways to do this:
- Generating income from advertisers and hosting advertisements on our websites
- Charging a commission to tutors on each of their lessons
- Charging students a percentage of the cost of each lesson
- Creating a subscription service that provides students with access to private tutors
Advertisements are a distraction and ultimately harm the end user's browsing experience, so we didn’t want to have advertisers disrupting the usability of the site or the user’s experiences.
While many other platforms charge their tutors commission on their lessons, we wanted tutors to be free to charge what they want and run their tutoring service how they see fit. We also didn't want to punish the tutors on our platform for being successful.
The same is true for charging students a percentage on top of each lesson they have. We want to encourage learning and charging a student for every single lesson they have in perpetuity didn’t feel right.
We ultimately went with the fourth option: a subscription service. This option offers students the best value for money and also allows tutors to offer the best possible service.
The subscription is like a Costco card, where you pay for access to the store and its products, but on Superprof, you pay for access to over 20 million great tutors!

A Brief History of Superprof
Superprof is one of the top 10 tutoring platforms around the world. Since 2013, we've expanded our site into 47 different countries and 18 different languages (not including all the languages spoken and taught by our tutors!).
We did this by filling a gap in the market. In the early days of the internet, the connection speeds necessary to offer online tutoring via webcam simply didn’t exist for the average person; the means of long-distance education was there but the technology wasn't quite advanced enough. The only entities that could afford to set up online lessons were places like universities and large companies.
When we launched in France in 2013, internet technology was exactly where it needed to be for online tutoring to be feasible and we were able to jump into the bandwagon of shifting educational trends. We established a place for tutors and students to connect for both face-to-face and online lessons with the least amount of obstacles possible.
Major advances in VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and webcam technology made online tutoring far more popular than ever before and within one year, there were over 100,000 private tutors on the Superprof platform, becoming the country's #1 platform.

Do not use – this company does not care about its clients. When I signed up a second account was made in error. I cancelled the account I was aware of in the first month and did not use a tutor from the Superprof service. Superprof initially charged me for the second account the same day as the first account (double charged) and continued to bill me after I had tried to discontinue their services. I had my credit card company stop payment to Superprof. $250 and 5 months later and they will not address the issue other than an unhelpfull generic email.
