Get rid of distractions

To do this you need to identify what are the things or situations that distract you.
For example, if you tend to spend hours on your phone and even your parents call you out on it, then you should try to leave the phone outside of your workspace.
You can place it in another room or give it to your siblings or parents and tell them to give it back once you're done with your school assignment or assignments.
Another typical distraction is music. Many students love studying and working with music, but this can be incredibly distracting. If you play your favorite band you'll be tempted to start singing along or dancing from start to finish.
You may say you'll just spend some minutes enjoying the song and before you know it you'll be listening to a complete album and forget about the tasks in front of you.
One way to tackle this is by playing music that you don't know, which helps you concentrate. There are many playlists for students on YouTube and Spotify.
Many distractions depend on your personality and the kind of student you are. If studying during the day is distracting for you, you should adapt your schedule and make the study sessions during the night instead of the day.
You need to find the things that are helpful for you, and the only way of doing that is by trying out different hours of the day, schedules, trying to finish an assignment in one sitting, or taking breaks, and so on.
Keep in mind that children and young adults function differently, so maybe whatever worked for you when you were a child won't continue working as you grow up.

Taking breaks sometimes is overrated but sometimes it is underrated too. Some students like to take too many breaks and others don't dare to take one single break during the day.
Balance is key!
If you have to read 100 pages and you know you can't read them all in one sitting, then pace yourself. Take a break after 25 or 50 pages you read. Maybe if you schedule your breaks you'll find doing homework easier.
If you have to do 40 math problems and you have 3 days to do them, then divide up the work and do 5 problems at the time. If you take breaks you won't worry about the 40 problems, instead, you'll focus on the 5 you have before your next break.
Taking breaks is also about teaching yourself to be disciplined. Many people like to say they've studied enough and they need a break after half an hour dedicated to homework. And then they take breaks of two hours or more, that's counterproductive!
If you find the balance between productivity and rest, you'll become a master at doing homework. It will for sure take you a long time and effort, but the regards are very gratifying.
Keep in mind that breaks are designed to rest your brain but to stay awake and alert. You can choose to do a creative activity or a sport during your break. That way you're still active but you're also resting.
Power naps are great too! You can set an alarm and try to sleep for 20 minutes (not much longer) and wake up reenergized to finish your math assignment or your chemistry task.
It's probably better to avoid power naps if you tend to enjoy naps too much because you could end up falling asleep and having to start doing your homework late at night.
Finally, we recommend you find a place or a spot where you go take your breaks because if you stay sitting in front of the computer it won't feel like a break. If you get up, grab something to eat, or do another activity you will feel much better.

The last piece of advice we'll give you on how high school students can effectively do their homework is learning to manage stress, especially when you're faced with an overwhelming situation.
Your academic life can be stressful and complicated, but if you want to finish high school being successful and overcome every obstacle, one of the most important skills you'll have to learn is to manage stress.
Teachers will push and challenge you so that you learn and grow as a student and as a person. But this process will be hard and at times painful.
If you have homework due soon but you don't have the energy to complete it, then you'll get a bad grade and many other negative things can happen.
The first step to managing your stress is by identifying what triggers you. If you're conscious of the things that stress you you can move forward into learning how to control them.
To manage stress you can divide all the things you need to do into small tasks and take one step at a time to complete them. Another way of managing stress is learning skills or taking up a new hobby. Learning to distract your mind during your free time is crucial for stress management.
