Choosing to prepare for an upcoming exam in your house is perfectly fine but you must study in a space where you won't get distracted and you'll be able to study and work in peace.
The first step you should take to figure out if an environment is proper for exam prep is paying attention to how many distractions there are around you. The best spot is probably your house's study, and if you do not have one, you can try the dining room table.
Trying to study in your bedroom can be counterproductive because you'll be tempted to go lay down on the bed and take a nap or watch TV.
If your desk is in your room and you are constantly getting distracted by its comfort, you should probably consider moving the desk to another room in the house. However, if there is no other place to put it you'll have to adapt yourself and work in your room.
A kitchen is often a popular place for students because you have a big table and comfortable chairs. But, choosing to study in the kitchen can be a mistake because it can be distracting.
Other family members can be constantly coming in and out of the kitchen, and in the process, they can talk to you and make you lose focus. Or, you can be distracted by the prospect of food and drinks, and instead of spending a couple of hours doing homework, you'd spend days going over the class material because you keep taking food breaks.
Other places you should avoid are the communal spaces in the house. For example, if your family has a desk in the TV room, you should ask if you can move the desk to another spot because if you have your mother watching the news or siblings catching up on the latest episode of their favorite TV show you'll end up getting distracted and not working.

Effective ways of doing homework
If you learn how to do your homework effectively you are going to save time and energy in the future because you'll be productive and less stressed.
Sometimes stress can be one of the factors making us procrastinate. We think of all the things we have to do, stress about it, and decide to deal with it later.
But, if you are controlling your stress you'll look at your notes and you'll feel excited or energized to start your homework instead of feeling overwhelmed and annoyed.
There are many techniques you can practice to reduce your stress and focus better while doing homework or studying.
For instance, if you exercise daily you'll take care of your physical health and by releasing endorphines —known as happy hormones– you'll take care of your mental health because it will lower your stress levels.
Another way of controlling stress is by learning relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, imagery, and mindfulness meditation. You should find a quiet place in your house so that you can practice any of these.
Getting a good night's sleep is also very important and another great way of relaxing so try to avoid staying up scrolling on social media until 2 am.
You also need to manage the amount of work and time you'll have. If you know you have an exam coming up don't wait to start studying the night before. You can divide up the course material and study and schedule study time every day. If you read the content for a couple of hours every day then you'll be ready for the test days before you have to take it.
Finally, we recommend you set realistic goals for yourself. Many students get stressed because they had other expectations of themselves before a test or starting an entire course. If your expectations are unrealistic you'll end up letting yourself down and being more stressed.

- Have "homework areas" - if your kids have a specific spot in the house where they can do their homework or go study they will learn to separate spaces and become more productive.
- Teach them to make a plan - many children need help organizing themselves; you can show them how to plan out their days and their homework.
- With continuing problems, get assistance - if you notice that your child has an issue concentrating or understanding a subject and it's beyond your level of knowledge you can always seek help with a private tutor.
