For many students whether they are in elementary school, middle school, high school or college, and beyond, it is really easy to feel overwhelmed by school work at times. Not every student is extremely gifted in every subject, or possibly they just lose interest in a subject like math, science, or history altogether. Some students know how to work hard and perhaps have strong support from their family at home to push them when they are not doing so well or feel pressured, but even the gifted students can use some extra help at times.

There is absolutely no shame in looking for academic support as there are always concepts we don't always get. Especially when studying in high school, we must all study a wide range of subjects and some things we don't understand as well as admitting we just may not be completely interested in a subject, however that is no excuse to not try, and there are many ways to find support from people outside of our homes if need be.

At whatever level you are studying it won't be so hard to find academic support if you are studying in the United States. Many schools have great support systems even within their school, and when you look outside of school for options, you also won't have that much trouble finding help. In many cases you won't need to worry much about the financial side of things, luckily in the U.S, there are a lot of free-to-no-cost options for parents and students to make sure they stay on track in their studies.

If you are worried about your grades, don't be, if you are ready to work hard to improve your grades you'll be able to find quality academic support really easily.

Why Do Some Students Struggle With Academics

The United States is home to some of the best high schools and universities in the world. Many people from all over come to our shores to get a quality education. That doesn't mean that every student who is studying in the U.S of A is getting straight A's all the time. There are actually quite a few students (although a decreasing amount) who drop out of school altogether. So what exactly is being done about this to lower the rate of dropouts?

While some students drop out of school for one reason or another, especially for problems at home, there are still many students who stay in school and still have problems with academics. There are more reasons than students just simply not liking a subject or simply not understanding a certain school subject. Factors exist from the student's mentality as well as problems they may have in their own home. Some reasons that students may struggle to do well enough or excel in a subject or during their classes, in general, can be because of:

  • Anxiety
  • Bullying
  • Problems at home
  • Overwhelming schedule

Depending on the age of the students they could be going through a few different things, unfortunately, bullying is present in our society today and middle schoolers and high schoolers especially experience it at times. Having someone to talk to can help a student find a solution to whatever is bothering him or her.

Of course, it can simply just be that a certain student has trouble understanding certain concepts, when students get to the college level and focus specifically on the major that they would like to study, they may enjoy it more and be more willing to study. However, you can find that there are many subjects that make up a master's and one or two of these subjects can be difficult to learn.

Private Tutoring in the United States

In the United States, there are plenty of ways for you to find a private tutor to work with. If you are a student a private tutor can help you with your studies in a huge way. In the United States, private tutoring can be found in a variety of different ways. There are plenty of tutoring services and centers in cities and even in smaller towns. Of course, since 2020 online options have become increasingly used and popular.

If you need a tutor there is definitely no shame in it, and around the country schools also provide their own tutors, usually older or grad students at a college or someone who is in their junior or senior year in a high school. The great thing about that is they will almost always be free of charge or at least included in the price of your tuition, especially at college.

There are also after-school tutoring centers and after-school clubs that kids in elementary, middle school, and high school can go to. Sometimes these students are sent there by their parents as there is no one at home to take care of them, and the clubs make sure to get some volunteers that can help them with their school work.

Many times young adults also offer private tutoring services that can be found on the internet or on bulletin boards around their neighborhood or town. Some college students would like to make a few extra dollars while studying in college so it's a great idea for them to offer to tutor a student or two.

There are also great websites that offer tutoring services. Superprof is an excellent website to use to find private tutors in the United States. Wherever you are in the states you can use Superprof, which is a website created to give tutors a chance to sign up and have interested students search for the tutors who are tutoring in the subject that they need help in.

Superprof tutors have been reviewed by their former students, and if one of the tutors that you think is the correct one for you, you can give him or her a chance, and most tutors offer a free first "trial" lesson for their potential students.

Private Tutoring Resources in the United States

Of course, most private tutors aren't always equipped with textbooks to give you or all of the information at hand. While many are knowledgeable they may not be able to teach you everything with just the knowledge that they have collected in their head. So what are some resources that private tutors use to give students the best experience possible and help them to achieve better grades?

  • Textbooks
  • Workbooks
  • Paper templates
  • Games and activities
  • Youtube

It may be necessary to use a textbook or workbook at times to give the student a reference point. If you are a student that needs help with math for example and let's say calculus, there are plenty of calculus workbooks you can use to study from and use to practice problem solving.

There are also plenty of worksheets that can be found on the internet and templates that can be used to practice whatever subject a student needs help with. Pinterest is a great website for finding worksheets and paper templates for studying.

Games and activities are also a really fun way of sticking information in student's heads, it works really well for teenagers and younger students. Youtube has also become a great source of information, tutors can use this to find a channel that gives useful information in just about any school subject.

Why Hire a Private Tutor?

Now, many parents and students may be hesitant about hiring a private tutor, however, it is a great investment for a student. Tutors can not only help students with what they aren't totally understanding but they can help to give them a confidence boost. As mentioned earlier some students are dealing with bigger problems than just not understanding the subject. There are plenty of tutors, especially the ones who volunteer at certain clubs that know how to connect with children and teenagers.

Then let's not forget of course the grades themselves, at any part of the learning process your grades are extremely important. Tutors can help students prepare for exams, make sure they are on top of their homework, and also make sure students can make a schedule that allows them to study and do their work.

Tutors also don't need to cost money, if you have trouble paying a tutor there are also always cheaper alternatives. Making sure you have the best grades possible is one of the best investments anyone can do for themselves or their children.
