About Rebecca
I earned my B.S. from the University of Central Oklahoma, my M.Ed. from Concordia University, and have been working on my doctorate with Liberty University. I have been teaching in some capacity since 2005 in public, private, charter schools, and home-schooled my own children for a time. I have a teaching certificate from Oklahoma for grades 1st through 8th and for 6th-12th specifically for History, Government, & Economics. I earned my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) from Via Lingua while studying in Florence, Italy, in 2016.

I use a mixture of inquiry-based, demonstration, and project-based learning in the classroom by employing the "I do, we do, you do" method. An example 45-minute class schedule: 3 minutes- discussing the new topic to assess what the student already knows on the topic of the lesson- "Intro" 7 minutes- teaching the new lesson with demonstration- "I do" 10 minutes-we work together on the new topic- "We do" 20 minutes- the student applies new concepts (reading a story, writing a story, creating a project, etc)- "You do" 5 minutes- discuss what they have learned and answer any lingering questions- "Recap" I like to build rapport with my students because it shows I care, and it helps them feel at ease when they are learning with me. They know they are in a no-judgment zone and can learn from their mistakes. Despite my high expectations for all my students, they usually surpass those expectations because I create a fun, engaging learning environment for them to grow and thrive in. I have worked with students of all ages. My Chinese students were 3 to 15 years old. When I was studying in Italy, I worked with students preparing for college admissions and retirees wanting to learn English for their travels. As a public school teacher, I taught 1st, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I’ve helped students who were far below grade level catch up to their peers and some even surpassed their peers. I’ve guided honors students and challenged them to think beyond what they are taught and formulate their own opinions on topics to make their research papers more personal and less formulaic. I meet my students where they are and guide them to where they need and want to go.
