About Adam
I studied music for 5 years at Memorial University of Newfoundland (B.Mus) and am currently completing the last of my courses there. I sought as varied training as I could, taking courses in conducting, education, electronic music, composition, and jazz, along with studying non-standard repertoire outside of the canon in my individual lessons.
During my undergrad, I sang as a choral scholar, as a member of a vocal ensemble, and as a member of opera, oratorio, and musical theatre choruses. I produced my own shows, was a teacher's assistant, and danced with a ballet company.
My musical training took me on new and exciting paths, and I hope it can do the same for you!

"All interpretations are valid" - but not all are equal! The difference is in how informed you are regarding historical context, compositional elements, poetic elements and analysis, translation, the list goes on and on. By using these as a reference, we find what speaks to you as an artist, and find what the music affords you.
My methods are based around mindfulness practice, where we try to remove immediate self-doubt and self-judgement. I suggest changes in vocabulary from 'that was better', to 'that was closer to what I WANTED'. This puts the power and the decision-making back into YOUR hands.
My teaching is best suited for those contemplating pursuing Western art music, musical theatre, or jazz in post-secondary, or more generally, for those who want to incorporate more music making into their lives (ages 15 and up).
