About Tsz Yau (Michelle)
I am Michelle, a 22-year-old soprano from Hong Kong, currently in my fourth year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. I study with John Evans and Linnhe Robertson as my coach, supported by the Margaret Easton Scholarship. I graduated from Wells Cathedral School as a Vocal Specialist, where I also served as Music Captain. During my undergraduate studies, I was cast as Second Niece in Peter Grimes with the British Youth Opera 2025 Summer Programme. In 2024, I was a Young Artist with SongEasel and made my role debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at Guildhall. My operatic repertoire includes scenes as Serpetta from La Finta Giardiniera, Juliette from Die Tote Stadt, Clorinda from La Cenerentola, Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro, and Gretel from Hänsel und Gretel. I was also a finalist in the Eastbourne International Singing Competition, Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors Vocal Prize and competed in the 2022 Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary for Young Singers. I have been featured by the South China Morning Post Young Post in Hong Kong and Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 2, sharing my musical journey. I have had the privilege of working with esteemed artists such as Richard Hetherington (Head of Music, Royal Opera House), Nicky Spence (Scottish operatic tenor), Kate Royal (English operatic soprano), and Roger Vignoles (renowned British pianist). I have performed in prestigious venues around the world, including the Sagrada Familia and Palau de la Música in Spain, Primaciálny palác in Bratislava, The Duke’s Hall and Milton Court Concert Hall in London, Shaw Theatre in London, and more. I am extremely passionate about my teaching career as it fills me with excitement and pride to witness my students achieve their goals and grow as performers. With a growing career as an artist in the performing industry, I am eager to share my skills, insights, and practical knowledge with as many talented individuals as possible. Teaching is not only a way to nurture emerging artists but also an opportunity for me to continuously grow and be inspired by my students’ journeys.
