I approach my teaching methodology in a holistic way, believing singing to be very much related to the body mind connection in order for the voice to really sing true. Music influences are embraced with a focus on technical aspects but my lessons are most importantly individualized to accomodate the person.

Find out more about Cameron

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

Since I could remember I've loved music but didn't know I'd have any aptitude for it or that it'd be my calling. One of my earliest memories was taping songs I liked from the radio in the 90s.
There was no internet in these formative years. I'd continually go backwards and forwards with the lyrics till I'd worked out the words. This was my pursuit till I had them written down. I have no idea 💡 where this obsession came from but I was doing something with purpose. Words through music. It makes perfect sense to me now that I was to become a musician, lyricist, vocalist looking back haha.
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I tend to rotate what I listen to catering for different situations and so to serve different moods but also to break up monotony. I definitely gravitate around certain qualities in music such as melancholy, atmosphere, energy and intensity.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or 'riveting' lesson you could personally give to one of your students.

Get out of your own way, stay humble and take every day as an opportunity. That means allowing yourself the space for failures, supersede them and then you'll even enjoy some success. Also, don't forget to have fun in the process for longevity.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I'd say maybe drums. I'm sure if I applied myself I could do it but I'll stick to what I know. Getting my feet to talk to my hands and my hands to my feet whenever I've gotten behind a kit feels so alien to me.
  • What are your keys to success?

Remember why you do it. My metric of success is being able to play, perform, teach in music. This is the wealth not the monetary side . For me I enjoy music first and that has driven me in effect to have success in other areas anyway.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

This actually happened to me where I met a singer I really admired at the Cherry Bar in Melbourne. I've always believed you should never "meet your hero's" but it was actually an amazing experience. Chino Moreno of The Deftones was the musician. I'd also like to meet the guitarist Ben Weinman as his songwriting and or arrangements are ridiculously good to me. I literally have dreamt of this many times.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your musical journey, or your days at 'music school'.

My belief is that being a musician isn't something that you do rather it is something that you are. It takes all of who you are and this is what gives it great purpose. This reminds me of why it's important. What better gift to share in the human condition.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I actually care about my students and I search high and low to provide my best singing / vocal tuition experience possible. I like getting into the nuances and this extends further than scales. Scales are great but can make the experience sterile because the voice I believe is an exploration that can seemingly even go outside what we know. It has its own magic.
