About Ash

I'm deeply passionate about English. I have always loved reading and writing as a means of expression, and I pursued it intensely in high school. I want to help students enjoy learning, reduce academic anxiety and work to achieve their goals and feel proud and fulfilled. In Year 11, I received a late ADHD diagnosis and found myself entirely lacking in knowledge of how to address my support needs, study and succeed academically. I sat through many school lectures on how to study, build good study habits and learn at school. I had never been able to relate, which motivated me to develop strategies of my own through researching published studies, the findings of which I adapted into trial and error tests and eventually into strategies I used to succeed in the HSC. This directly formed my advice to my peers and developed into the principle I adopted to assist students with their academic progress and success: A profound respect for individual experience and its relation to learning. Additionally, I was assisted by excellent teachers and tutors who kept me accountable, organized and supported my studies. I feel profound gratitude and inspiration from their empathy and care. My experiences and challenges, combined with my love for English and helping others, led me to pursue tutoring after graduating. I care deeply about ensuring every kid has a fair go when it comes to exams and the classroom and gets the chance to shine. I will tailor my tutoring to their needs so that they get an equal opportunity to be outstanding and reach their fullest potential.

About the lesson

My Experience and Qualifications: - I graduated from Loreto Kirribilli in 2024, and I achieved in English Advanced (B6), Extension 1 (E4) and Extension 2 (E4), as well as Visual Arts (B6), Modern History (B5) and History Extension (E3) with an ATAR of 95.50. - I was awarded the prize for excellence in Extension 2 English for placing top in my course and made the honor roll in the Sydney Morning Herald. - I have a paid status, a Working with Children Check, and clearance to work with minors. - I currently work as a Study Mentor at Loreto Kirribilli Senior School. - I am completing a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Advanced Studies with one of my majors being English, so my skills with writing and literature are regularly practiced at a tertiary level. Who are my lessons for: Year 7-10, of all levels and abilities. HSC students undertaking English Standard, English Advanced, English Extension 1, or English Extension 2 (happy to assist with multiple subjects) Neurodivergent students - especially those with ADHD, who struggle with organization, time management, study skills and executive function/procrastination struggles. You deserve a tutor who fully understands and empathizes with your unique learning experience and is willing to work with you rather than against you. My approach: I believe in a calm, consistent and flexible approach to learning tailored to a student's specific support needs and learning goals. No two people learn the same, and I believe the standard homework + endless hours of study approach does not benefit many students personally or academically. I seek to find uniquely individual ways of increasing a student's retention and interest, developing skills which they can apply broadly into classroom and exam settings. It is all about comprehension and articulation of understanding in English - That is what we will work on! Lesson times: (In short - Flexible and tailored) I'm happy to tailor lesson times to you! Can't sit still? We can do two 30-minute sessions with a 15-minute break! Need extra time to understand or talk through concepts? We can book 2 hours. I am very flexible with your needs. We will find what works together if you want to switch up the structure.
