About Louis
I am Louis van Hemert and I worked as a scientist and computer programmer at a scientific organization for many years and now tutoring online in my fields of work. I live in the Western Cape province of South Africa near the city of Cape Town. I obtained a BSc degree in Atmospheric Sciences (Meteorology) at the University of Pretoria and then I joined the South African Weather Service where I worked for more than 20 years. I was working on computers and writing hundreds of Linux scripts (Bash programs) to process Weather data and monitor weather forecast models.

I offer on-line tutoring in 30 min or 1-hour sessions and in English or Afrikaans, using zoom, skype, whatsapp video or similar media. Also screen sharing so that you can see what I type or do on my screen and I can see what you type or do, like when we are in a classroom. Its like one on one "on the job" training in a relaxed interactive atmosfere while giving you enough time to understand and ask questions at any time as we go along. I will go through a list of Linux commands, show examples of each, and write example scripts/programs (with you), using Bash scripting language. Also we will have practical sessions where WE can create programs, including programs that YOU would like to have for your own use.
