About Brian
Over the last three years, I have worked to help students cultivate confidence, clarity, thoughtfulness, and authenticity in their academic writing. I have greatly enjoyed meeting and conversing with students, and I am always motivated by the chance of helping them recognize new inspiration for learning and writing. Empowering students to fulfill their goals and take new risks is incredibly meaningful work that I am grateful to do.

I try to help students as efficiently as possible by gauging their assignment, proficiency, and confidence as soon as I can. This typically involves asking several questions about the student's course curriculum, their attitude towards their class or assignment, and what the assignment is asking of them. When proofreading, I will read aloud the student's work to them, which helps the student hear their work in a different tone, and gives them the opportunity to ask specific questions and for me to better explain errors. For larger or more troubling assignments, I like to reach out to a student directly to review their work or materials (rubrics, key texts, early drafts, etc.) before meeting for a lesson. This allows me to devote more time in a session to addressing specific concepts or areas for improvement. I always try to end lessons by confirming that the student is confident in their work or comfortable to continue working on their own. If a student is still uncomfortable I will spend the last few minutes of a lesson discussing and preparing for a follow-up. I offer help to middle school, high school, and college level students.
