About Sudhanshu

About Me

Hello! I’m Sudhanshu Mishra—a passionate musician, composer, and guitar instructor with a diverse background in music and sound design. I was born into a conservative Brahmin family in India, where music and arts were deeply rooted in my lineage. My grandfather was the 13th generation in our family to teach Sanskrit, music, arts, and Hindu philosophy, and my mother, a sitarist, greatly influenced my early interest in music.

I began my musical journey studying Indian classical music and later, at the age of 9, picked up the guitar, inspired by legendary rock bands such as Pink Floyd, Guns N’ Roses, and Rush. Over the years, my foundation grew as I studied Classical Music Theory through the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, and Electric Guitar techniques with Rockschool, London.

In addition to being a live performer and studio session artist since 2011, I am also an experienced sound designer and audio engineer. I pursued advanced studies in Sound Design at George Brown College, Toronto, where I honed my skills in creating immersive audio experiences for games, films, and other multimedia projects. As a composer and sound designer, I work extensively with tools like Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, Unreal Engine, and Wwise to craft soundscapes for a variety of creative endeavors. My credits include composing for albums, designing game audio, and scoring films—bringing stories to life through music and sound.

As a guitarist, my playing style is heavily influenced by virtuosos like Guthrie Govan, John Petrucci, Greg Howe, Tom Quayle, and Steve Vai. My legato techniques and extensive fretboard knowledge have shaped a unique and recognizable style that connects with both avid listeners and aspiring musicians.

Why I Teach

Teaching has always been a way for me to share my passion for music. I’ve been fortunate to learn from talented musicians and educators throughout my journey, including my first guitar instructor, Mr. Haokip, who inspired not only my playing but also my approach to life and music. Now, with over 8 years of teaching experience, I take great pride in mentoring students, some of whom have gone on to become professional musicians and educators themselves.

My Philosophy

I believe that teaching is a two-way street. Every student brings their unique perspective, which challenges and inspires me to grow as a musician and educator. My goal is to help you find your voice in music, whether it’s mastering guitar techniques, understanding theory, or exploring the art of composition and sound design. Together, we’ll create a roadmap tailored to your goals, with the right practice materials, theoretical knowledge, and creative guidance to unlock your full potential.

Whether you’re an aspiring guitarist, a budding composer, or someone interested in sound design for games and films, I’m here to help you every step of the way. Let’s create something extraordinary together!

Lesson Strategy

My teaching approach is tailored to each student’s aspirations and skill level, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience.

For Beginners
Every individual has their unique goals in music, and I carefully consider these when designing lesson plans. My classes strike a balance between:

Song-Playing: Learning songs to build confidence and enjoyment.
Technical Skills: Developing foundational guitar techniques for better control.
Theoretical Knowledge: Understanding music theory to build a strong framework.
Musicianship: Fostering creativity and a deeper connection to music.
For Intermediate and Advanced Students
For more experienced students, I focus on:

Technique Enhancement: Helping refine skills to improve musical expression.
Developing Musical Identity: Guiding students to shape their unique personality in music.
Songwriting & Composition: Teaching effective ways to compose riffs, solos, and complete songs.
Music Production: Introducing or advancing skills in music production using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Logic Pro, Cubase, and Ableton Live.
I am proficient in Classical, Jazz, and particularly passionate about Progressive Metal/Rock, blending these influences to create a diverse and dynamic teaching style. Whether you’re interested in delicate classical melodies, complex jazz harmonies, or the intricate techniques of progressive genres, I can guide you on your musical journey.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

I have been fortunate enough to have a lot of talented musicians come to my home for rehearsals with my mother, and so my curiosity and the will to develop my skills to match with those seasoned musicians made me what I am today.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

Well, I love all aspect of music be it guitar playing, music production or interaction with other instrumental musicians or vocalists. It is really hard for me to see myself in any other profession other than being a musician(that is who I am).
To put it honestly, I live my life and teach what I have learned over these years, playing with many good musicians.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

The more I teach the more I learn from my students, that is one fact that drives me towards music education. I have been teaching music for over 8 years now and fortunately some of my students have become professional musicians as well as educators themselves. This gives me great pride in my teaching methodologies and strategies to handle different personalities of students. Hopefully that makes me a SuperProf as well.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

There are certainly a lot of musicians who inspired me over the years but the most important influence would be my first guitar instructor Mr. Haokip who was Jewish immigrant in India, his family fled during the World War. He had really good techniques, and also assisted me manage my life struggles when I was a student. I would be forever grateful for his humble support and guidance.
  • What are your keys to success?

Finding what you want for yourself, and then trying to materialize the idea by working hard to achieve it.
My work as a guitar instructor is to help you find that and also ease your path by guiding you with the right practice material and theoretical knowledge.
