About Lisa
I am a state school student who succeeded at getting top grade at 2 of the top 3 universities in the country. I am a firm believer in the power of education to enable social mobility, and the key to this is an excellent basis in English literature, writing skills and critical thinking.
No subject is more important and has contributed more to my success than English. Though we live in a digital age, a sound understanding of language, rhetoric and writing for a target audience continues to prove itself as an invaluable skill. For a personal statement for university, a job interview, or a presentation, presenting your ideas with the right words is a necessary step to success.
My aim as a tutor is to educate young people about this important skill, inspire a love of literature, and enjoy fascinating topics through stories, poetry and journalism.

I focus on high school-aged students (GCSE, A Level, National 4+5 Higher and Advanced Higher) and teach English literature and Spanish. I generally tutor online via Google Meet though I am based in North West London and open to delivering in-person sessions in the area.
I taught as an English Language Assistant in Spain for one year and gained an English as a Foreign Language teaching qualification. Professionally, I work in summer school delivery and frequently deliver sessions on applying for top UK universities to ambitious international teenagers.
My focus is on preparing students for exams, however, my overarching goal is to inspire a love of language in young people which will enrich their future. I aim to encourage young people to read widely and think critically about texts, analyse complex language and understand texts within their socio-political contexts. This will prepare them well for exams, along with standard grammatical and analytical skills, as well as a lifetime of reading for pleasure and critical reasoning.
