About Ashley
I am a PhD student studying ethnomusicology at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to starting my PhD, I studied music performance and anthropology. My primary instrument area is percussion, but have also studied piano, guitar, and a variety of woodwind instruments. In addition to being a musician, my studies have also required me to extensively study foreign languages, so I also know Turkish, Kurdish, Persian, and Swedish.

My teaching style relies on a flipped classroom approach, where students take charge of their own learning. In this setting, I serve as a facilitator for learning and help guide students through their own learning journeys. My typical approach for teaching writing includes developing a strategy for breaking up large writing assignments, implementing a reading and writing schedule, and leaving plenty of time for developing editing and formatting skills. My writing lessons are aimed toward high school and undergraduate level students.
