When I am instructing more than one student, I find it helpful to allow the dynamics of the group to grow as the course goes along. One-on-one instruction usually occurs at a faster pace than group instruction, but that is not always the case. Either way, I allocate time for the course to run longer than usual.
I have been teaching in one capacity or another my entire government career. Mostly economics, law, and political science; mostly instructing career officials with less time and experience than I have. They were usually required to take an examine at the end of the course which they all passed.
