About Atom

Hi; my name is Atom (they/them)! I'm a student and writer based in Ōtepoti Dunedin where I am currently studying towards a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Otago, majoring in English and mathematics. I'm an experienced tutor, having taught both English and maths at a high-school level. Whether you need help preparing for exams or want to build a deeper understanding of difficult concepts, I can help!

About the lesson

I give 50-minute lessons where I focus on tailoring the learning to the individual student and building a dialogue with the student. I have tutored students with a wide range of learning styles including neurodiverse students, so I have experience addressing my tutoring to students' particular strengths and weaknesses. My approach to tutoring focuses on building deeper understanding of concepts, so that the student is able to apply their learning in contexts outside school assessments.

Anne is a thoughtful and diligent student, and I am glad to have had the opportunity to tutor her. She is very good at coming up with ideas and identifying important parts of the texts. Mostly she needs to work on how to structure those fragments into a cohesive essay; but she showed a lot of improvement in that regard even over the few lessons we had.
