About Sophie
Hi, I’m Sophie—a professional and reliable SAT Reading tutor with a 1570 SAT score (790/800 Reading), a 4.0 unweighted GPA, and proven experience helping students improve their performance and confidence. I’ve led structured bootcamps and one-on-one sessions through Schoolhouse.world, a globally recognized tutoring platform, where I specialize in breaking down complex reading passages, running through practice problems, and providing tips and test strategies to help my students excel. As a legal intern, SAT tutor, and captain of my school’s Ethics Bowl team, I’ve developed the analytical, organizational, and communication skills necessary to run focused, effective lessons. I treat every session seriously, coming prepared with targeted materials, adapting to each student’s needs, and ensuring that time is used efficiently. My students know they can count on me to show up, explain concepts clearly, and guide them step-by-step toward their goals. My approach is thoughtful, structured, and results-oriented. Whether you’re aiming for a top percentile or just trying to build a stronger foundation, I’ll help you master the skills, understand the logic behind each question type, and approach the SAT with clarity and confidence. Most importantly, I'm just a Senior in high school myself and so I understand the unique struggles people our age have when going through SAT test prep. Especially with the new digital and adaptive format of the SAT, you need a tutor with the most up to date, relevant resources and tips, and I've got just that. — Sophie

As an SAT Reading tutor, I focus on making the test feel less overwhelming and more approachable. My method combines breaking down dense or confusing passages into understandable parts with targeted skill-building like teaching annotation skills, recognizing question types and what to do for each type, and mastering evidence-based reasoning and reading comprehension. I don’t just teach students what the right answer is, I show them why it’s right and how to consistently find it themselves. A typical lesson begins with a warm-up review of a previous homework passage, some tips, resources, and/or insights I have. Then we’ll dive into a timed practice section or a set of questions, focusing on singling out the different question types and how to tackle each one. I guide students through the questions with test strategies like POE (process of elimination), singling out the most important details in the question, and flagging trap answers. I make sure the lesson is interactive and, at times, even student guided. I ask my students to explain their line of reasoning and how they got to their answer to help correct holes in logic or flaws in strategy/technique. We review any mistakes in-depth to turn them into learning moments, and I assign optional targeted practice to reinforce weak areas. What sets me apart is that I’m not just a tutor. I’m a student, too. With a 1570 SAT score and experience leading both 1-on-1 sessions, small groups, and SAT Reading & Writing bootcamps, I understand the challenges students face and can explain concepts in a relatable, step-by-step way. I'm friendly and approachable, and as a student myself I can offer unique and relevant perspectives to my students, making them feel comfortable and engaged. The SAT is still fresh on my mind, so unlike other tutors I'm equipped with the most up to date techniques, strategies, and resources. My lessons are ideal for middle and high schoolers (grades 7–12) who want to boost their SAT Reading scores, whether they’re aiming for a top percentile or just want to get started. As a top percenter myself, I work well with both high-achieving students and those who just need to build foundational skills, and I adjust my pace and tone based on their needs. Every student deserves a chance to succeed, and I’m here to help them get there. — Sophie
