About Andrew
I hold a BA in history from Lewis and Clark College (2001) and a PhD in history from Rutgers University (2011). I am can associate professor of history and director of graduate studies at the University of Memphis. I am the author of articles on French history and of two forthcoming books. I also work as an editor, tutor, and translator.

I am a working historian, researcher, writer, teacher, and editor. For the past twelve years I have been a professor of history at the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN. I mostly teach courses in the modern world, modern Europe, imperialism and colonialism, and historical theory. I am currently serving as the director of graduate studies.
As a professor, I have supervised hundreds of undergraduate essays, papers, projects, and presentations. I have mentored and advised dozens of graduate students, serving on dozens of comprehensive exam committees, theses, and dissertation committees. I have also directly supervised a dozen MA theses and four doctoral dissertations.
My focus is on teaching research, reading, and writing skills so that students can locate, evaluate, synthesize, and write up their findings on their own. I am attuned to individualized needs, and am willing to work with students where they are. Lessons will be a mix of content and skill-building exercises.
