About Thomas Strong

I am a Principal Tenor from Opera Australia (profile is on the Opera Australia website). I have a Bachelor's of Performing Arts from West Australia Academy of Performing Arts and a Master of Music (opera) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
I have won many awards, scholarships and Competitions as a singer some are listed here.
-Winner of the Lady Fairfax New York Opera Scholarship ($43,000).
-Winner or the Dame Joan Sutherland/AOAC award ($20,000).
-Runner up Italian opera foundation singing competition ($7,500).
-Recipient of the John Bequest award for singers ($10,000)

I have sung as a soloist many places to name a few Sydney Opera House, Hammer Hall, Melbourne Arts Center, Melbourne Concert Hall, Sydney Concert Hall etc.. I sing in German, French, Italian and English, so I can teach you to sing in these languages with great clarity and excellence.

About the lesson

I specialize in teaching Italian singing techniques similar to those used by great opera singers and many mainstream singers, with a focus on Classical singing, Musical theater, Rock, Jazz, Pop, and crooning. My teaching approach prioritizes vocal health and longevity, emphasizing proper support for vocal projection as well as identifying your true voice without false manipulation to make you sound like you and no one else. We are all individuals and the only person with your voice is you alone, I push people away from trying to manipulate their true voice in order to sound like someone else. I will help you build a true connection to the music and convey it with emotion and skill. Lessons typically last 60 minutes, but can extend to a maximum of 90 minutes to avoid strain on the voice if you like my teaching styles in the first free lesson I choose to teach privately without the use of the Superprof platform so you don't need to pay extra fees. I also offer packages and can supply you with a professional invoice for professional singers who would like to claim their lessons on tax. For children under 10, I offer 30-minute lessons tailored to their age group. Additionally, I offer instruction in drama, stagecraft, and stage combat. Initial lessons involve assessing your vocal abilities and preferences, with the option to select music that suits your voice or use backing tracks for support evaluation. With a background as a Principal artist for Opera Australia, holding both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Opera and classical music as well as 16 years' experience as a teacher I bring a high level of expertise to my teaching. I welcome students of all levels; I have experience teaching beginners to advanced professionals and also offer online lessons.

I was so stuck on my voice and my vocal problems for years. I had problems with pitch and hitting the high notes. If your a tenor you will want to see Tom. He showed me how to hit the high notes without constantly straining my voice. I could never hit a C before I saw Tom and now I have just started singing an aria with a C in it and I hit it every time.

For experienced classical singers this is more in depth training for professional singers looking to polish their voice for high profile engagements.

I also teach acting, stage fighting, sword fighting for stage, Alexander technique, vocal projection and confidence building. The same normal teaching rates apply with these lessons.

Kids and teens 14 and under are $50 for 30mins and $70 for 45mins. (normal junior vocal lesson)
