Find creative writing tutors in Edwardsville

In a creative writing class, you learn the craft behind compelling fiction, poetry and personal essays.

• Creating characters means giving them desires and conflicts that drive the story forward.
• Story structure teaches you to pace events so readers keep turning the page.
• Point of view and voice: choosing who tells the story and how they sound on the page.
• Editing your drafts teaches you to cut weak passages and sharpen every sentence.

A private tutor reads your drafts closely and gives feedback tailored to your style and goals.

Creative writing tutors in Edwardsville typically charge $18/h.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your writing goals, from school assignments to finishing a novel
• The tutor's experience and publishing background
• The package you choose (one-off session or regular lessons)
• The lesson format (online, at your home or at the tutor's place)

Online lessons are often more affordable while remaining just as effective.

Creative writing takes many forms, from short poems to full-length novels.

• Short stories and novels let you build entire worlds around a central conflict.
• Poetry plays with line breaks, metaphor and form, from haiku to free verse.
• Creative nonfiction: true stories told with literary techniques, like memoir or the personal essay.
• Screenwriting and playwriting rely on scenes and dialogue rather than long description.
