Graffiti rests on a few fundamentals that every beginner should learn first.

• Basic letterforms come first. Practice simple block letters with even height, width, and thickness before adding any flair.
• Tags are quick, stylized signatures. Practicing your handstyle daily builds the hand control that bigger pieces need.
• Core formats add more color, size, and detail step by step. Tags come first, then throw-ups, then full pieces.
• Daily drills in a sketchbook build speed and control. Move to markers and spray cans once your letters feel steady.

A tutor can also show you legal spots and safe spray techniques once you are ready for walls.

The average cost of graffiti lessons in Minneapolis is around $10/h.

The cost depends on:

• Your skill level and learning goals
• The instructor's credentials and track record
• The package you choose (one-off or regular)
• The location where the sessions take place

Most teachers offer a free trial lesson so you can test their approach.

Getting into graffiti is easier when you follow a simple step-by-step path.

• Choose a tag name first. A short name with varied letters gives you plenty to practice.
• Practice basic letters in pencil before adding style. Straight, even letters make later styles look sharp.
• Layer your effects slowly. Each new effect should look clean before you add the next one.
• Try real tools after your sketchbook drills improve. Legal walls and workshops give you a safe place to spray.

An instructor can pick the right tools for you and teach clean technique from day one.
