Book private graffiti lessons in West Haven

The fundamentals of graffiti are easier to learn than most people expect.

• Letter structure: every graffiti style grows from plain, well-proportioned letters. Clean basics keep your later styles from looking sloppy.
• Handstyles: a handstyle is your tag, a fast stylized signature. Most writers build their whole style from it.
• Types of graffiti build on each other. Tags are quick signatures. Throw-ups use bubble letters. Pieces are detailed multicolor works.
• Sketchbook practice: fill a notebook with daily lettering drills. Paper is the cheapest place to make mistakes.

A private tutor can spot weak letter shapes early and fix them before they become habits.

The best way to start graffiti is with a pencil and a sketchbook.

• Pick a name to write. Choose a short word you like, because you will draw it hundreds of times.
• Draw plain letters on guide lines in a sketchbook. Keep each one the same height and thickness.
• Build up your style in layers. Outline first, then add color and a shadow.
• Move to markers and spray paint when your sketches feel steady. Use legal walls and workshops so you can practice safely.

A private tutor gives you a clear plan and shows you what to practice first.
