Life coaches are professionals prepared to help their clients achieve certain goals in their lives. People who work with life coaches want to accelerate their next step in their career, feel stuck and want to get unstuck in certain life aspects, need help stoping or surrendering unhealthy habits, feel unchallenged, and confused about the next chapter of their lives, and much more.
Other reasons why people hire life coaches are:
If any of these reasons resonate with you, then working with a life coach can help you turn your life around and find solutions to your problems. If that’s the case, then investing money in yourself might just be the best thing you ever do for yourself.
Depending on what your goals are, how long you’ve been working with a life coach, or what your budget is, the time of the coaching sessions can vary. For instance, you might work with a life coach that you found right here on Superprof, and they tell you that their ideal time is one hour and three times a week. Others might think that it is best to get started with 30-minute sessions five days a week. It all depends on the approach each coach has and your personal goals. Some like to get to know their clients little by little, with short sessions, and others like to get started strong and have long sessions.
We do recommend that the appropriate amount of time is between half an hour and an hour per session. Doing less than 30 minutes is counterproductive because you will bearly scratch the surface with that time and you will get to see results in a much longer period. However, having sessions that last longer than an hour can also be counterproductive because burnout can happen and you won’t achieve any of your goals. Spending more than an hour per session can cause anyone to get irritated, frustrated, overwhelmed, and more. This is why 30 minutes to an hour are appropriate timeframes to maintain a session with a life coach.
Sometimes it is easy to confuse the jobs and roles of life coaches and therapists. However, these are two completely different jobs; the only thing they have in common is that life coaches and therapists work to help people improve their lives. With that being said, you should know that a life coach is a professional who will help their clients work on improving their lives by setting goals and helping them achieve them. On the other hand, therapists work on mental health and resolving past traumas that the patient might have. If you work with a life coach, you will focus on building your future; if you work with a therapist, you will focus on healing your past.
Last, but not least, since the focus of work is different for both, the reasons why you go to one professional or another are also different. For instance, if you decide to go to therapy it is because you are probably experiencing some symptoms that are attributed to mental health issues. For example, people who have anxiety, depression, eating disorders, or past traumas usually require the help of a therapist. On the other hand, a life coach will help their clients by teaching them how to set goals for their future, how to get “unstuck” in a certain moment of life or to help people figure out their next step in life.
