Find your private Excel tutoring in The Bronx

Excel beginners should focus on five essential areas that form the backbone of daily spreadsheet work.

• Data entry and formatting: type values into cells, adjust column widths, and apply number formats like currency or percentages so your data stays clear and readable.
• Core functions like SUM, AVERAGE, and COUNT: combine SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, and MAX to perform quick math on any dataset.
• Sorting and filtering: sort columns from A to Z or largest to smallest, then toggle filters to isolate specific categories.
• Relative and absolute cell references: learn when to lock a reference with $ signs and when to let it shift as you drag a formula.
• Building simple visualizations: use Excel's chart tools to transform raw data into clear graphics your audience can understand immediately.

Once you're confident with these basics, features like PivotTables and VLOOKUP become much easier to pick up.
