Find your private AP physics tutor in Columbia

Physics lessons cover a broad range of topics that explain how the universe works at every scale.

• Kinematics: The study of motion — including position, velocity, and acceleration — forms the starting point of any physics course.
• Newton's Laws of Motion: Understanding how forces cause, change, or stop motion is a cornerstone of every introductory physics class.
• Energy and Work: Energy concepts — from gravitational potential to kinetic energy — are explored through formulas and real-world applications.
• Waves and Optics: Lessons on waves cover sound, light, and electromagnetic radiation, including reflection, refraction, and interference.
• Electromagnetism: This unit covers the behavior of electric charges, current, voltage, and the relationship between electricity and magnetism.
• Modern Physics: Students are introduced to 20th-century discoveries: the photoelectric effect, wave-particle duality, and Einstein's theory of relativity.

These lessons build on one another — a strong grasp of the fundamentals makes advanced topics far more approachable.

The hourly rate for physics tuition in Columbia averages $27/h.

The cost depends on:

• The level of study (middle school, high school, AP, or college)
• The instructor's credentials and track record
• The package you choose (one-off or regular sessions)
• Where the sessions take place

Online lessons are often more affordable while remaining just as effective.

Physics is organized into several major branches, each focusing on a different aspect of the natural world.

• Classical Mechanics: The study of forces, motion, and energy in everyday objects — the foundation of all physics study.
• Thermodynamics: Students learn about entropy, thermal equilibrium, and the efficiency of engines and refrigerators.
• Electromagnetism: This branch unifies electricity and magnetism into a single theoretical framework developed by Maxwell.
• Optics: The study of light — how it travels, bends, reflects, and interacts with lenses, mirrors, and the human eye.
• Acoustics: Acoustics has real-world applications in music, architecture, medicine (ultrasound), and engineering.
• Quantum Mechanics: This branch introduces wave functions, probability, and phenomena like the photoelectric effect and electron orbitals.
• Relativity: Einstein's special and general theories describe how space, time, and gravity behave at very high speeds or near massive objects.

Whether you're studying for the AP Physics exam or a college course, a qualified instructor makes these concepts far more accessible.
